We woke up to an invading army this morning (not really, but it felt like it). A line of trucks, campers, and boats stretched for almost a mile down the dirt road. Ed was already gone, so I set the boys up with breakfast and hunted Mrs. Jensen (why can't I remember her name) down. She says most of them are from Long Lake, but there are a dozen or so from home. Have to wait and see who they are. God, I hope Jess is one of them. I need some girl talk right now.
There's a whole lot of traffic directing and chainsaws going right now. Looks like they're clearing trees for parking spots. Its going to get awfully crowded up here.

Oh thank god, Jess and Livvy are here! We spent all night catching up on news, not that there was a whole lot of it. Nobody has heard anything new from any of the big cities which is really weird in itself.
Livvy said the traffic going down Highway 17 was just insane. Which direction, I asked? Both! Where do people think they are going to go?
No idea, but there were also a lot army vehicles, even tanks.
David's words back at the coffee shop came back to me then, about people dying of an illness and then getting up again. Just how contagious is this illness?
Nobody knows how you catch it, but nobody has seen David since that day, either.
What about Frank? Frank Hesper? Did anybody talk to him lately?
Nobody has seen Frank since the beginning of July. His boat's gone from the marina and his house looks empty. But he goes across to the Slates every summer around this time, so it's not unusual.

Another great big group of people tried to arrive this morning. We've run out of room over here, so Ed and a few other men have gone to help them set up further down the road by one of the beaches. Jess says that brings us up to almost 150 people setting up camps here. No idea if they're locals or not, have to wait until later.
It's turned into quite the sight: motorhomes, truck campers, big tents, little tents, tarps stretched over makeshift frames. I'm not very good at judging area, but it looks like we take up a good kilometre or more along the river's edge and the lakeshore.
Ed Kenwick came by earlier this afternoon looking for his dog. Seems it ran off after a rabbit. I know the hunters have been out every day, I hope nobody shoots the dog by accident. I wish I had a dog right about now.
Jason and Daniel are down at the riverbank trying to catch frogs. Ew, yuck. I wonder if we're going to end up eating those frogs later?
So far, there hasn't been any fights, unless you count Alvin who got drunk again and took out two other tents after stumbling into the wrong one. I don't think he's seen the outside of a bottle since last year when Henrietta was killed by a moose on the highway.
